Sabah Bike Fest 2009

KOTA KINABALU: Some 400 bikers are expected to take part in the first ever Sabah Bike Fest Carnival 2009 in aid of Beringgis Children’s Home.

To be held at the First Beach Cafe in Tanjung Aru on Dec 5 starting from 10am (registration), the event with the theme “1Bikers, 1Voice” will be organised by KMDC Bikers Forum in partnership with Jesselton Events Management and Nadiaz Trading.

Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Peter Pang is expected to attend the launching.

The objectives are to promote biking as a healthy activity, to promote the objectives and activities of the bikers’ clubs, and to provide a platform for members from local and international bikers’ clubs to interact whilst sharing knowledge and experiences.

“This event is also to promote social and business networking among members and the public, and to participate in the country’s effort in promoting social integration vide the 1Malaysia concept,” organising chairperson John Lee said during a press conference yesterday.

He added that the fest was also an opportunity for them to hold a membership recruitment drive as well as enabling local business communities to promote their goods and products.

Apart from members of the local bikers’ clubs, he said the event would also see the participation of bikers from Labuan (Independent Riders), Sarawak (Bintulu Bikers Community and Miri Bikers Club) and Brunei (Yamaha Owners Group).

The Sabah’s bikers clubs comprise Kemowta, Independent Riders Community, Tawau Scoot Clan, Tawau Classic Bike, Sepilok Bikers Club, Sandakan Scoot Riders, Lahad Datu Scoot Riders, Kinabalu 150, West Coast Scooterist, Borneo Riders Club, Santai Bikers, KKLC Group and Sabah Big Bikers Club.

Lee said the fest was to be held in a carnival setup to provide opportunities for the bikers to get involved in the various activities to be conducted.

“Unlike in the past, where bikers who travelled all the way from their respective places only met during a dinner gathering, this time they will have more times to interact through the various activities,” he said.

There will be booths for exhibition, selling of motorcycle accessories and consultation with insurance companies. Other events include workshop and clinic for bikers and the public, performances by local artists, bikers’ competition and fun games.

KMDC Bikers Forum is an online community for Borneo motorcycle enthusiast which was established in 2007 and currently has over 700 registered members online, of which 40 per cent are active members.

Managed by a group of local youth with the passion for biking, they produce and maintain their own website, the www.kmdcbikers.com, for other bikers’ enthusiasts to gain news as well as to promote and organise events or activities around the state and Labuan.
